Carbon County court — DUI
Four people entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court to charges of driving under the influence.
The pleas were accepted by Judge Steven R. Serfass.
Jodi A. Palmer, 37, of Lehighton, was arrested on Aug. 12 by Lehighton police along Bridge Street following a vehicle stop. She refused a test. In exchange for the plea, a charge of resisting arrest was dropped.
Serfass sentenced her to serve 90 days to 60 months in the county prison, pay a fine of $1,500, her license was suspended for 18 months, and when released on parole, she must render 100 hours of community service.
Palmer, currently an inmate in the prison, was given credit for 75 days already served.
James Gregory Jelleyman, 22, of Summit Hill, was arrested on July 16 in the 200 block of Bridge Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, a year suspension of his license and render 25 hours of community service.
He began the jail term immediately.
Garry Edwin Smith, 60, of Palmerton, was arrested on Aug. 3 by Palmerton police along Princeton Avenue. A test revealed a 0.15 BAC.
Serfass sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $500, a year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.
He will serve the prison term on consecutive weekends beginning Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. and serve two days and Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. and serve three days.
Donald Zarillo, 33, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 15 along East Street by Palmerton police. He refused a test.
Sentencing was deferred so Zarillo can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
