Carbon County court — DUI
Five defendants who previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence charges were sentenced on Friday in Carbon County court by Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Emily Faye Turner, 30, of Boiling Springs, Cumberland County, was sentenced to time-served, 100 days, to 60 months in prison, fined $1,500, 18 month license suspension, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 100 hours of community service.
On a charge of driving under suspension — DUI related, she was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days, must serve the full 90 days, and a fine of $1,000. The prison terms run concurrently. She was arrested on Oct. 16, 2015, by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Anthony N. Colosi, 30, of Pocono Lake, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in prison, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service. He was arrested on Feb. 20 along Route 903 by Kidder Township police. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.
He will begin the jail term at 5 p.m. on Nov. 26.
Elex Vantiez Blanks, 36, of Berwick, Columbia County, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
A first offense, he was arrested on May 12 along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.21 BAC.
Greg Matthew Shafer, 19, of Weatherly, was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He was given credit for two days already served and paroled. He was arrested on May 13 along Wilbur Street by Weatherly police.
On a charge of obstructing the administration of law he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge, and must render an additional 25 hours of community service. He was previously placed in the ARD probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.
Amber R. Sypeck, 28, of Weatherly, was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, render 25 hours of community service and make restitution for damages stemming from an accident of $4,300.
She was arrested on July 25, 2015, by state police at Hazleton. A test revealed a 0.21 BAC. Sypeck was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.
She will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Nov. 27.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
