Carbon County court — DUI charges
A total of nine people charged with driving under the influence and other counts, entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas.
Two cases
Veronica Frank, 44, of Nesquehoning, entered pleas in two pending cases. She pleaded to DUI, false identification to law enforcement and driving under suspension — DUI related for an incident on Jan. 12 in Lehighton. She also pleaded to a possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine — count for an incident on Aug. 17, 2017, in Nesquehoning.
Frank is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Muncy, Lycoming County, serving a sentence imposed in another court.
Matika had to defer sentencing so Frank can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.
Other cases
Milton Reynoso-Montero, 26, of Hazleton, was arrested on May 17, 2017, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so Reynoso-Montero can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Beth Renee Waddle, 39, of Moscow, Ohio, was arrested on Aug. 24, 2016, along I-80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Matika sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.
She will begin serving the jail time at 5 p.m. April 20.
John James Kusko, 58, of Lansford, was arrested on Aug. 22, 2017, in the 400 block of West Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test revealed a 0.15 BAC.
Sentencing was deferred.
Daryl Lee Greenawalt, 55, of Lansford, was arrested on Dec. 17, 2016, along Bertsch Street by Lansford police. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC.
He was sentenced to serve 10 days to 24 months in prison, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and render 100 hours of community service. The jail term runs concurrent with a Schuylkill County sentence.
It was noted he has two DUIs in Schuylkill County.
He was given credit for 29 days already served and paroled.
John M. Balogach Jr., 54, of Lehighton, was arrested on Nov. 29, 2017, by Mahoning Township police. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.
Sentencing was deferred.
Thomas Patrick Haley, 63, of Pottstown, Montgomery County, was arrested on Nov. 10, 2017, by Mahoning Township police along Mill Road. A test revealed a 0.30 BAC.
He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service.
He was given credit for 53 days spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program and paroled.
Norman H. Christman Jr., 47, of Lehighton, was arrested on Dec. 17, 2017, by Mahoning Township police along Mahoning Drive East. A test revealed a 0.21 BAC.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Trevor Austin Evans, 25, of Lansford, was arrested on June 11, 2017, by Lansford police along Patterson Street. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.
He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.
He began the jail term at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
