Carbon County court — DUI charges

A total of six defendants, who previously entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges, were sentenced on Thursday afternoon in Carbon County court by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Charles Vincent Mattucci, 50, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500 and license suspended for 18 months. He was given credit for 92 days already served and paroled. On a driving under suspension - DUI related charge, he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days, but must serve the full 90 days, and pay a fine of $1,000. That term runs concurrent with the DUI count and he was given credit for 92 days on that charge and paroled.

He was arrested on April 7, 2018, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.

Glenn M. Sanford, 54, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He was arrested on Dec. 31, 2015, along Route 534 by Kidder Township police. A test showed 0.16 BAC.

He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. on Dec. 27 and serve three days; then Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. and serve two days.

Janine April Sarau, 28, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in jail, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and render 25 hours of community service. She was denied placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program due to being on supervision at the time of her arrest and other violations of supervision.

She was arrested on April 30, 2018, by state police at Lehighton along White Birch Lane in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

She will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Dec. 30 and was granted work-release privileges.

Mark Steven Savacool, 56, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He was arrested on June 2, 2016, along Cherryhill Road in Parryville by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.24 BAC.

He will begin the jail term at 3 p.m. on Dec. 13 and serve two days; then Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. and serve three days.

Eric Sheeran, 54, of Kunkletown, was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail followed by five months in the IPP program with the first 30 days on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. On a driving under suspension - DUI related count he was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 days in jail, concurrent with the DUI charge, and pay a fine of $500.

He arrested on July 25, 2018, by state police at Lehighton along Little Gap Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. He refused a test.

He will begin the jail term at 10 p.m. on Jan. 5 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.

Joseph J. Stalgaitis, 41, of Lansford, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He was arrested on June 3 by Lehighton police along Alum Street. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.

Stalgaitis is currently an inmate in the county prison on other charges.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
