Carbon County court — False ID

A Jim Thorpe man was sentenced to a county prison term on Monday on a charge of false identification to law enforcement officers.

Anthony Joseph Formisano, 47, entered the plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass and was sentenced to serve three to 12 months. Formisano is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Frackville serving a three- to six-month term for a state parole violation.

Formisano was arrested on April 12 by Franklin Township police following a traffic stop along Long Run Road at Route 2016. He was a passenger in the vehicle and gave a false name to officers. Dropped in a plea bargain were charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Serfass also ordered Formisano to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 50 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

Eric Eugene Bastardi, 46, of Bowmanstown, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement officers. He was arrested following a traffic stop by Lehighton police. He was a passenger in the vehicle and gave a false name. He said he thought there was a warrant out for his arrest and that was why he gave a false name.

Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
