Carbon county court — IPP
Two Carbon County men facing drug charges were sentenced on Friday to a special state prison program that addresses drug addiction problems.
Judge Joseph J. Matika placed Anthony W. Hill, 30, of Nesquehoning, and Vernon Charles Gold, 35, of White Haven, in the state’s intermediate punishment program for two years.
The program consists of about seven months in a state correction institution, months spent in an intensive inpatient drug and alcohol program and the remaining time in a halfway house. Matika warned both that if they are dismissed from the program they would be brought back and be resentenced by him.
Hill was arrested on Aug. 25, 2018, by Lansford police on drug counts. He was initially charged with seven counts including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Gold was arrested by state police at Hazleton on June 12, 2018. He was charged with four counts including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Both were evaluated for the program at SCI Camp Hill, Cumberland County, and approved. Both are inmates at that prison.
Each were also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000 and supply a DNA sample.
