Carbon County court
A Luzerne County man was given a county prison term on Monday after pleading guilty to a harassment count.
He was one of seven defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Ex-girlfriend
Justin Nodes, 35, formerly of Weatherly, was sentenced to serve three to 12 months in prison on the charge.
He was arrested on March 29, 2018, by Weatherly police for harassing an ex-girlfriend at a residence along Carbon Street. Police initially responded to a call of an unwanted person. Charges of stalking and terroristic threats were dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.
Nodes was also ordered to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 50 hours of community service when paroled and have no contact with the victim.
Other pleas
Sierra Lynn Serfass, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of theft of mislaid property. She was arrested on Oct. 8, 2018, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. She was working in a beauty salon at the store when a package for Walmart was delivered to the salon by mistake. The package contained various types of jewelry. Eventually the package was returned to Walmart but some items were missing. She admitted taking the items.
Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to make restitution to Walmart for $35, render 50 hours of community service and to stay out of Walmart.
Matthew Wentz, 39, of Parryville, pleaded to one count of theft. He was charged by state police at Lehighton with taking a 1997 Dodge Ram truck from a Parryville resident.
Sentencing was deferred as Wentz has other criminal charges pending.
Stephen T. Meleschuck, 60, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. A charge of persistent disorderly conduct was dropped in a plea deal.
He was arrested on Aug. 5, 2017, at the Palmerton hospital, where he was causing a disturbance. He initially made contact with police along Route 248. Police took him to the hospital for evaluation.
Matika imposed a fine of $100 and costs.
Jamie L. Douglas, 31, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense, with a charge of persistent disorderly conduct dropped in a plea deal.
She was arrested on April 11, 2018, by Weatherly police.
Matika imposed a fine of $200 and costs.
Eron Lance Henry, 49, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense, with a charge of simple assault dropped in a plea deal. He was arrested on May 10, 2017, by Lansford police following a domestic incident involving a former girlfriend.
Matika imposed a fine of $100 and costs.
Wayman Moore, 48, of Harrisburg, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was arrested on June 23, 2018, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store where he and a co-defendant, Paris Lee, stole quantities of baby formula. Lee previously pleaded guilty to her part in the case and has been sentenced.
Matika sentenced him to serve 21 days to 18 months in prison, ordered he make restitution of $602.43, a half-share of the total due, render 25 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample and stay out of Walmart. The term runs concurrent with a sentence he is currently serving in Carbon County prison of two to 23 months.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
