A Kunkletown area man admitted on Monday morning in Carbon County court to assaulting his wife.

He was one of four defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Nesquehoning incident

David Paolillo, 55, of Kunkletown, pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault for an incident on Dec. 13 in Nesquehoning.

Police responded to a residence along East Catawissa Street for a report of a domestic assault. On scene, police found the victim bleeding from the mouth. She told officers her husband had thrown her to the ground several times. Police also noted redness on her arms and face.

Defense attorney Eric Wiltrout, of the public defender’s office, said Paolillo was dealing with a drug issue at the time and has since gone to an inpatient program but did not finish the program. Paolillo said he and his wife are no longer together.

Nanovic sentenced him to time-served (26 days) to one year in jail and ordered him to get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, attend and successfully complete an anger management course, have no contact with the victim, supply a DNA sample and follow any rehabilitation program ordered.

Drug cases

James Elizabeth George, 25, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested by Lansford police on Dec. 4, 2018, at the intersection of Patterson and Pardee streets following a traffic stop.

George admitted to a drug problem and completed a 45-day inpatient program.

Nanovic sentenced him on the two counts to serve one to 12 months in prison with credit for the 102 days (45 days for inpatient and 57 days in prison) and paroled him. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use.

Amanda Welker, 31, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, heroin. She was arrested on Feb. 19, 2019, by Lansford police following a traffic stop at Patterson and Parkview streets.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use.

She is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison on three pending drug-related charges.

Joseph David Pitts, 32, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 16, 2019, by Lansford police following a traffic stop along Ridge Street.

Sentencing was deferred as Nanovic ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
