A Carbon County man admitted this week in the county court that he fled police after they attempted to serve a warrant on him. A second man entered a plea to a drug charge in an unrelated case.

Both defendants appeared before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Lehighton incident

David F. Canham, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of flight to avoid apprehension. On Nov. 25, 2017, Lehighton police went to a residence along South First Street to serve a warrant on Canham. Police had information that he was at the residence. He fled the home when officers arrived and ran through several yards before being apprehended by officers.

Canham, an inmate in the county prison, was sentenced to time served (45 days) to one day less 24 months and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. The term runs concurrent with a sentence he is serving in Lehigh County.

Drug charge

Ryan A. Cain, 49, of Germansville, Lehigh County, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.

He was arrested on May 25, 2017, by Palmerton police along Lehigh Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the area for a suspicious person and found Cain. He had marijuana on his person.

Sentencing was deferred.
