Carbon County court

A Lansford woman admitted to two theft and drug counts on Monday in Carbon County court.

She was one of six defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Retail thefts

Gemile Mehmeti, 30, pleaded to two counts of retail theft and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and false identification to law enforcement.

Mehmeti was arrested on one theft count on Nov. 22, 2017, by Nesquehoning police at Redner’s Warehouse Market. The second theft occurred at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township on April 9. The drug count and false ID occurred on Nov. 17, 2017, in Summit Hill. She was arrested in the area of the Carbon County Environmental Center along White Bear Drive. Found was methamphetamine. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.

On the first retail theft she was sentenced to serve 30 days to one year in jail with credit for 32 already served and paroled. On the other counts she was placed on probation for a total of two years consecutive to the first count. She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, make total restitution of $140.98 and render a total of 100 hours of community service.

After the sentencing proceeding she was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies on a warrant issued out of Schuylkill County for failure to appear.

Other pleas

Besim Bejtullah Mehmeti, 36, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of retail theft.

He was arrested by Lansford police for an incident at the Family Dollar Store along East Patterson Street on Nov. 27, 2017.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and stay out of the store.

Nicole Lavoie, 42, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of retail theft. She was arrested on May 6, 2017, by Lansford police.

She was placed on probation for six months.

Joseph Robert Kosalko Jr., 38, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession, use or display documents. He was arrested on Aug. 28, 2016, by Lansford police along Bertsch Street for operating a vehicle with an inspection sticker belonging to another vehicle.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

Jay N. Beil, 43, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a prohibited offensive weapon.

He was arrested on March 20 by Lansford police along West Kline Avenue. He had in his possession a .22-caliber rifle with the serial number removed. A charge of alter/obliterate mark of identification was dropped in a plea bargain.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Matthew Ryan Berry, 28, of Stroudsburg, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct following a traffic stop along Route 902. A charge of prohibited offensive weapon was dropped in a plea agreement. Police found Berry with a stun gun.

Sentencing was deferred.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
