Prothonotary’s report
A total of 299 cases were started in September in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 31; custody complaints, 18; complaints to modify custody, 14; district justice appeals, 2; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce complaints, 21; complaints in ejectment, 4; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 13; protection from abuse petitions, 46; protection from sexual violent individual petition, 1; judgments, 120; miscellaneous case, 1; stipulation/waiver of liens, 1; and writs of executions, 25. The office also processed 64 passport applications and rendered assistance to the public in 22 passport renewal applications.
Behrens’ financial report for September shows $48,406.93 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $36,857.58; interest income, $5.25; custody/divorce fees, $1,600; data processing fees, $9,200.60; stenographer fees, $743.50; and remote access fees, $600.
The prothonotary also remitted $3,805.19 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $51.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $2,795.50 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
