Prothonotary’s report

A total of 305 cases were started in November in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals, 4; civil actions, 34; custody complaints, 19; complaints to modify custody, 15; district justice appeals, 5; divorce complaints, 16; complaints in ejectment, 4; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 18; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 30; protection from sexually violent individual petitions, 2; tax sale, 1; auditor/financial report, 1; court appointments, 2; judgments, 69; miscellaneous cases, 2; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; and writs of executions, 31. The office also processed 65 passport applications and provided assistance to 15 individuals with passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for November shows $32,657.50 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $26,939.54; interest income, $7.75; custody/divorce fee; $1,100; PFA Surcharge Sheriff, $25; PFA Surcharge Courts, $25; data processing fees, $3,743.46; stenographer fees, $816.75; and remote access fees, $6,800.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,336.71 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $57.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $995 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
