Revenue from deeds
Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Emmett P. McCall reported his office recorded 278 deeds, 185 mortgages and 289 other writs during the month of December.
As a result of those transactions, McCall turned over to the Carbon County General Fund the sum of $30,073.88. A breakdown of that revenue includes: transfer fees, $22,648.50; data processing fees, $1,499.50; notaries, $60; commission on transfers and writs, $4,714.78; and Affordable Housing administrative fee, $1,151.10.
McCall remitted $376 in state writ taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, while Carbon County municipalities and school districts shared realty transfer tax disbursements totaling $235,085.27, the same amount that was forwarded to the state in realty transfer taxes.
McCall deposited $2,247 in the Recorder of Deeds Record Improvement Fund and $1,498 in the Carbon County Records Improvement Fund, these being fees assessed by state law on each transaction for records management needs. An additional $27,928.75 was collected and remitted to the state for its Judicial Computer System program.
Also, $6,522.90 was collected last month for the Affordable Housing Program in Carbon County.
In all, funds collected in the Recorder’s office last month amounted to $538,817.07.
Prothonotary’s report
A total of 361 cases were started in December in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 22; custody complaints, 19; complaints to modify custody, 8; district justice appeals, 7; divorce complaints, 13; complaints in ejectment, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 15; protection from abuse petitions, 20; replevin complaint, 1; court appointment, 1; judgments, 226; miscellaneous cases, 3; stipulations/waivers of liens, 3; and writs of executions, 20. The office also processed 80 passport applications and offered assistance to the public in 20 passport renewal applications.
Behrens’ financial report for December shows $37,600.88 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $28,542.39; interest income, $2.99; custody/divorce fee, $2,900; data processing fees, $5,355; stenographer fees, $800.50; and remote access fees, $2,400.
The prothonotary also remitted $3,626.35 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $83.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,510 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
