Carbon County to enact $50 cremation fee

Published January 15. 2018 01:15PM

Carbon County is now poised to enact a $50 fee for cremation.

The cost is to be included in a new fee schedule for the coroner’s office.

Commissioners on Thursday announced they will be publishing notice of the intent to adopt the ordinance establishing the fees.

When the ordinance is enacted, Carbon will join at least two other counties in charging a fee.

Schuylkill County charges a $50 fee, and Luzerne County charges $60.

In other matters Thursday, commissioners renewed a service agreement with Schindler Elevator Corp. for the courthouse, its annex, and 76 Susquehanna St. for elevator maintenance at $530.40 a month. The cost reflects a $14.29 a month increase.

The agreement does not cover the elevator for the third judges’ area.

Commissioners also agreed to pay Rachel Sterner of Palmerton $237.50 a month to clean the county Area Agency on Aging office.

Commissioners also acknowledged the employment separation of special deputy Sheriff Cody L. Llewellyn, Saylorsburg, effective Jan. 3; the resignation of summer law clerk Emily Nerino, Jim Thorpe, effective Jan. 9; the court appointment of probation officer Nicole A. Horn, Slatington, effective Jan. 15; and the hiring of part-time parking attendant Gary M. Matson, Palmerton, effective Jan. 12.
