The Carbon County Courthouse Annex has a new name.

On Thursday, the county commissioners approved a motion to formally change the name of the courthouse annex at 2 Hazard Square in Jim Thorpe to the Carbon County Administration Building, effectively immediately.

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said the action was due to the upcoming building project along Susquehanna Street, which will be the new courthouse annex once completed because of the offices that will be using the new structure.

The administration building houses the offices of the commissioners, Veterans Affairs, treasurer, controller, recorder of deeds, human resources, tax assessment, tax claim bureau, information technology and purchasing; while the eventual new annex will include court-related offices, as well as a fourth courtroom.

“We wanted to get the word out now,” Nothstein said.
