Carbon Environmental Center upcoming events
Carbon County Environmental Education Center, located off Lentz Trail in Summit Hill has two events this weekend.
• Saturday: Fall Foliage Hike, 10 a.m. Forestry Consultant Jeff Wartluft leads this group into the flaming foliage of fall. If nature cooperates, this will be an ideal weekend to check out the display of deciduous leaves. Though the hike is along easy walking trails, sturdy shoes are recommended. All ages welcome to this free program. Each participant takes home a free tree identification guide.
• Sunday: Star Party, 7 p.m. Rain/cloud cover date: Oct. 21. It’s peak time for the Orionid meteor shower, and with only a sliver of moon to interfere with our view, the night looks promising! Mercury may also be visible shortly after sunset, and CCEEC will supply binoculars and a telescope for better viewing. The free program includes light refreshments and is led by Penn State stargazing enthusiast Dr. Carl Frankel.
Sign up for these events. Preregistration is easy. Just call 570-645-8597, and leave a message if you get the machine. Leave your name and phone number, and how many people you’re registering for an event.
