Carbon inmate assaults another inmate during Bible study
An inmate in the Carbon County Correctional Facility faces more charges after he physically assaulted another inmate during a Bible study.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Tim Wuttke of the Nesquehoning Borough Police Department:
On June 5, borough police officer Nick Grecco received a complaint of an assault at the Carbon County Correctional Facility that occurred a day earlier.
Grecco was advised that inmate Nathan Blose, 35, of Lansford, had assaulted another inmate during a Bible study in the multipurpose room of the facility.
Grecco was advised that due to his injuries, the inmate has to be hospitalized as he received surgery to fix his injuries.
On June 6, Grecco interviewed Blose about the incident, at which time Blose admitted to assaulting the inmate after the two exchanged words in a heated argument.
However, Blose would not give a written statement.
Video footage of the incident was obtained and showed that during a Bible study, a heated argument between Blose and the inmate began.
During the argument, Blose got out of his chair, rushed over to the inmate and began striking him in the face.
The fight then went to the ground with Blose on top of the inmate, continuing to assault him.
The inmate was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
On June 16, Wuttke went to the jail to interview the inmate on this incident, but the inmate said he did not want to speak to him and was returned to his block.
On June 20, Wuttke served a search warrant on the medical records department of the jail requesting copies of the inmate’s medical records.
Wuttke received the inmate’s records and found that he suffered a left orbital fracture and a fracture of his nose, injuries that required surgery to repair.
Blose faces charges of aggravated assault, assault by prisoner, simple assault and harassment.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing July 24 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
