Carbon man given prison term for assault, resisting arrest
A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday after pleading guilty to counts of simple assault and resisting arrest in two separate cases.
Robert Thomas Fisher Jr., 35, of Nesquehoning, was sentenced to serve nine to one day less 24 months on the assault count and three to one day less 24 months on the resisting charge by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. The terms run concurrently.
Fisher, who is an inmate in the county prison awaiting action by the state parole board for violating his state parole, was arrested on March 8 by Palmerton police for assaulting Augustus Altemose at the victim’s residence along Delaware Avenue. He was arrested on the resisting count on June 28 by Lehighton police following a traffic stop at Bridge and Second streets. Police knew Fisher had an active warrant for his arrest when they stopped him.
Nanovic also ordered Fisher to have no contact with Altemose and attend and successfully complete an anger management course, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
He was given credit for 138 days spent in prison to date on the charges.
Altemose told the court he is facing a six-month prison term to be imposed by the state parole board.
