A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday afternoon on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and other counts to which he previously pleaded guilty.

Allen Bruce Quarles, 30, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve six to one day less 24 months in prison on two counts of simple assault and one count of terroristic threats.

On a charge of criminal mischief he was sentenced to serve one to 12 months in prison.

On two summary offenses of harassment he was fined a total of $600 and costs. The prison terms run concurrently. He must also serve one year of probation.

Quarles was charged on March 25, 2018, by state police at Hazleton for assaulting a woman in Beaver Meadows. In that case, he pleaded to the mischief count and a summary offense of harassment with a simple assault charge dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.

He was arrested on March 31, 2017, for an incident in Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, in which he assaulted a man at a residence in the township. In that case, he pleaded to the threats charge.

He had been arrested on Feb. 5, 2017, for assaulting the same man at the same location. In that case, he pleaded to simple assault, with charges of aggravated assault and harassment dropped in a plea deal.

The fourth arrest was July 5, 2017, also in Penn Forest Township, with a woman as the victim in a domestic incident. In that case, he pleaded to simple assault and harassment with a charge of terroristic threats dropped in a plea deal.

State police at Fern Ridge filed the charges in each case.

Quarles told the court, “I’m sorry for what I’ve done. I acted out of character. It will never happen again.”

It was noted that the female in the assaults is the mother of his two children. He said they are no longer together or have any kind of contact.

Nanovic gave him credit for 232 days on the mischief charge, 213 days on the first assault count, 17 days on the threats charge, and no credit on the second assault.

He was also ordered to make restitution of $791, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, attend and successfully complete an anger management course, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee when paroled.

Quarles has six months to serve on the fourth count and will begin serving it at 6 p.m. on Aug. 9.
