Carbon man jailed for gun incident

A Carbon County man was jailed on Friday for allegedly pointing a gun at his estranged wife.

Summit Hill police reported that at 1:50 a.m. they were dispatched to the 300 block of West Iron Street for a 911 hang-up call. On scene officers found Kyle Douglas Evans, 30, of that residence who said everything was fine and denied there was an issue other than a verbal argument. Police were then advised by the communications center to contact the female complainant.

The woman told police she and Evans are going through a divorce. When he returned home that evening, an argument erupted in the kitchen. She stated Evans made a threat to kill her and retrieved a loaded hand gun from the living room. He first pointed the gun at her and then turn it on himself. The woman said she was scared and afraid of what Evans might do. When he dropped the firearm, she grabbed it and fled for her safety. The gun, a .380-caliber hand gun, was turned over to police. A check revealed the gun was registered to the victim.

Evans was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning. Bail was set at 10 percent of $40,000, which he was unable to post.
