Carbon man sentenced to state prison for series of break-ins
A Carbon County man was sentenced on Tuesday to a state prison term and faces a substantial restitution bill for a series of burglaries in the county.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic sentenced Jacob Adam Taschler, 40, of Palmerton, to serve a total of nine to 24 months in a state correctional institution after previously pleading in eight pending criminal cases.
He also was ordered to make total restitution of $42,259.33 for various items stolen during the break-in spree.
Taschler had pleaded to three counts each of burglary and criminal trespass and one count each of simple assault, resisting arrest and fleeing and eluding police.
On Tuesday, he entered a plea to another burglary count for an incident on Nov. 12, 2015, filed by state police at Lehighton, bringing the total pleas to eight.
Taschler admitted to his part in burglaries on Aug. 5, 20, 24 and 27, 2015, and Nov. 7 and 11, 2015 in the first seven cases. Four break-ins occurred in Palmerton, and one break-in each occurred in Towamensing Township and East Penn Township. The assault, resisting arrest and fleeing incident occurred on Nov. 13, 2015, in Palmerton involving officer Christopher Ritter as the victim.
Nanovic also ordered Taschler to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.
Nanovic ruled that his sentence will run consecutive to a state prison term imposed by Northampton County on March 24 for similar charges.
