Carbon man sentenced to state prison term on theft, trespass counts
A Carbon County man was sentenced to a state prison term on Thursday in the county court after pleading guilty to charges of criminal trespass and theft, both felonies.
Ryan E. Wurst, 31, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 12 to 24 months in a state correctional institution on both counts, with the terms running concurrently.
Wurst admitted his part in a burglary at a residence along Hemlock Drive in Penn Forest Township on March 6, 2018.
In exchange for the plea a charge of burglary was dropped by the district attorney’s office.
Wurst told the court he is facing a state parole violation proceeding and expects to get a six month “hit.”
At the time of the incident he was on state parole after serving a state prison term in another matter.
Serfass also ordered him to supply a DNA sample, make restitution of $1,364.28, which is his half-share as there is a co-defendant in the case, and pay court costs of about $1,000.
He was given credit for 66 days already spent in jail on the charges.
