Carbon planning commission recommends approval for projects

The Carbon County Planning Commission has recommended approval for a new building at AMPAL in Lower Towamensing Township and a number of other projects.

Last week, the planning commission voted to recommend approval for the following:

• Ronald and Betty Anthony, for a three-lot subdivision at 205 White Tail Lane in Lower Towamensing Township. The existing property is 62.419 acres and is zoned RC-Rural Conservation.

• AMPAL Inc., for a subdivision at 2115-2125 Little Gap Road, Lower Towamensing Township. They have proposed a 4,600-square foot industrial processing building, access drive and stormwater facilities on the site.

• The owners of the Woods Campground, for a subdivision at 3500 Forest St., Towamensing Township. They have proposed a 4,275-square foot camp store, parking lot and stormwater controls.

• Technical Sales & Assistance Inc. and McCall Farms, for a subdivision/lot line revision at the intersection of Blakeslee Blvd. Drive West and Country Club Road in Mahoning Township. McCall Farms has proposed subdividing a 6.221-acre lot off its 21.879-acre parcel, and combining it with a 3.515-acre lot owned by TS&A.

• Randy and Rose Reese, for a lot line revision at 1121 Broadview Drive, Jim Thorpe. They have proposed combining two lots totaling 2.015 acres.

The commission also determined that several proposed infrastructure and utility projects are in with the county’s comprehensive plan:

• The proposed extension of Lime Street in Bowmanstown. The borough has proposed to improve an existing dirt road connecting Spring Street with the Meadowcrest subdivision. They have about $700,000 in state grants for the project.

• PPL’s Siegfried-East Palmerton Transmission line rebuild project. The utility plans to rebuild an existing transmission line which runs through East Penn, Lower Towamensing and Palmerton borough in Carbon County, and Washington Township, Lehigh County.

• A water leak detection project in the Lehighton area. The Lehighton Water Authority plans to purchase leak detection equipment for its system in Lehighton Borough, Mahoning Township and Weissport borough.

• The Tresckow water line and fire suppression improvements project. Kline Township has proposed upgrading 2,300 linear feet of cast iron pipe from 4-inch to 8-inch, replacing three fire hydrants and installing three new ones.
