Carbon prison votes to look at policies

Published June 25. 2018 12:37PM

Carbon County’s insurance wants to make sure there are no liability exposures when it comes to the county prison’s policies.

Last week, the county prison board voted to allow the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool Prison Risk Management Review program to review all of its prison policies.

Warden Timothy Fritz explained that this free service provides counties with a review to help with limiting liability in the event of any litigation.

According to the paperwork the county received about the program, “County prison operations continue to be one of the largest liability exposures for the (Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool) members, and generate a large amount of PCoRP’s claim costs.”

The service will provide the county with advice on ways to limiting the possibility of being sued.

The reviews will be completed by two of the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool’s defense counsel firms.

In other matters, the board announced that its new vehicle gate at the prison has been installed and is working great.
