Carbon to seek new proposals for bullet-resistant barriers
A Butler County company whose proposal to install clear, bullet-resistant barriers at three Carbon County district judges’ offices was accepted by commissioners in August won’t be doing the job after all.
Commissioners on Thursday rescinded the acceptance of Ibis Tek’s $28,755 proposal and will seek other proposals.
Ibis Tek, of Butler, submitted a design that “wasn’t feasible,” said county solicitor Daniel A. Miscavige.
In other matters, plans to mark the county’s 175th anniversary were clarified.
Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15 in courtroom No. 1.
“There was some confusion with the date. The actual anniversary is March 13. The meeting will be on March 15,” said Commissioners Chairman Wayne E. Nothstein.
The meeting will feature readings of the minutes of some of the initial meetings, local dignitaries and cake.
Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard gave an update on improvement projects at the county dog shelter.
Eight indoor lights still need to be converted to LED, with three outside lights to be converted when the weather breaks.
There are currently 21 dogs in the shelter. The adoption fees have been cut in half this month to spur adoptions, he said.
