Carbon veterans court gets grant to help with enhancements
Carbon County’s Veterans Treatment Court is getting an $18,000 infusion to provide additional incentives for participants thanks to a state grant.
On Thursday, the commissioners approved a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency in the amount of $18,244 for the enhancement of the treatment court.
Richmond Parsons, chief adult probation officer, said that the grant will be put to good use.
“We’re excited,” he said, noting that the treatment court has been up and running for almost a full year. “When PCCD announced the additional funds for enhancements, we looked at is as a way to enhance our own court to address some issues we are experiencing.” Parsons said that two issues the grant will help with include transportation and training.
The grant will cover the purchase of 300 $25 gas cards, as well as training on motivational interviewing to help those in the court team build participants’ motivation to succeed outside the court atmosphere.
In addition, the grant will also cover the purchase of 300 $10 gift cards to be used as incentives for participants to complete mandated tasks, 100 pocket planners, a portable Breathalyzer and various drug test kits.
