Carbon woman given prison term for drug dealing
A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday on a drug-dealing charge.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II sentenced Carol Lynn Scott, 42, of Lehighton to serve nine to one day less 24 months in prison followed by two years’ probation.
State police at Hazleton vice/narcotics unit received information from a confidential informant that Scott was selling heroin out of her home at 186 S. Second St., rear.
In early August 2016 the CI called Scott and made arrangements for a buy.
Following the controlled buy, troopers made a consent search of Scott’s home and found heroin, U.S. currency and various drug paraphernalia in the home.
Defense attorney Paul J. Levy, of the public defender’s office, said since the incident, his client has been getting counseling monthly for drug addiction problems. He said she also spent time in an inpatient program.
Scott told Nanovic she became addicted to heroin.
Nanovic said he was troubled by the fact that shortly after she left the inpatient program she was arrested for driving under the influence.
In addition to the prison term, Nanovic ordered Scott to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, continue counseling sessions after her parole, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
She will begin the prison term at 11 a.m. Nov. 3.
