Charges are pending following a one-car crash Friday night in Mahoning Township in which three juveniles were injured, one seriously.

The incident occurred at 8:58 p.m. Friday when a vehicle traveling along Fredericks Grove Road near the intersection with Grist Mill Road, hit a tree, resulting in entrapment.

“It’s a criminal investigation, looking at some search warrants,” said township police Chief Audie Mertz. “We won’t have determinations with charges until we get some blood results back.”

Mertz said the driver was an 18-year-old male; the front-seat passenger was a 17-year-old female; and the rear-seat passenger was a 14-year-old female; all of Lehighton.

He said the rear-seat passenger was flown by medical helicopter, ambulance transport from scene over to Arner’s Airport, then to Lehigh Valley — Cedar Crest, while the other passenger and the driver were taken by ambulance.

Mertz said it appears none of the occupants inside the vehicle were wearing their seat belts.
