Chestnuthill appoints new supervisor

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors appointed Eric Snyder as supervisor through the end of the year at the meeting Tuesday night. Snyder is replacing Harry Miller, who resigned last month to move out of the area.

Snyder is an engineer by trade and has experience working with townships.

After taking an oath of office and his place beside Chairman Carl Gould II, Snyder participated in the discussion throughout the meeting.

The vote was 2-0, with Chairman Carl Gould II and Vice Chairman Chris Eckert both in favor.

“He’s the only candidate that is running for the office for the term which would begin in 2020, so it makes sense to me that we would appoint him,” Eckert said before the vote.

Snyder grew up in this area. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School and has been a resident of Chestnuthill Township for nine years.

As an engineer, Snyder has experience working with outside agencies like the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

This background gives him a different perspective, Snyder said after the meeting.

“It’s a different way of looking at things and trying to protect the public,” he explained.

“I have grandchildren in the township now, so I’m looking forward to trying to get some more parks and recreation facilities for them, and be more involved with the public, and get some more events and things that we can do in the township,” Snyder said. “I’d love to have a public swimming pool.”
