Shawn Christy, the McAdoo man who led authorities on a nearly four-month multistate manhunt last summer, has asked for and been granted a continuance for his trial on federal charges.

Christy, 27, had been scheduled to appeal in U.S. District Court, Scranton, beginning May 6, when jury selection for his trial was scheduled to begin. On April 22, he asked for a continuance, and an order granting the continuance was made April 24. He is currently incarcerated in Lackawanna County Prison.

According to the order granting the continuance, “the trial shall be rescheduled, and deadlines for pretrial briefs and materials will be reset.”

The federal charges Christy faces include three counts threats against the president of the United States, interstate communications — threats to law enforcement officers, two counts transmitting threatening communications, interstate communications — threats to injure another person, two counts interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, two counts interstate transportation of a stolen firearm, interstate transportation of a firearm while under an information for a felony offense, transport firearm interstate by a felon, two counts fugitive in possession of a firearm, and two counts felon in possession of a firearm.

Christy had appeared in Schuylkill County Court on March 22. At that time, he asked for a continuance, stating that he wanted his trial on federal charges first.

He was granted a continuance for his trial on the Schuylkill County charges, which include four felony counts of aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault stemming from an alleged attacked on Stephan Holly in 2017. According to the police report, Christy swung a stick at Holly, then Mayor of McAdoo, during an argument involving snow removal.

Christy had also threatened to shoot President Donald Trump and Northampton District Attorney John Morganelli. Christy went on the run after failing to appear in Schuylkill County Court May 30, 2018, and he was captured Sept. 21, 2018, in Mifflin Township, Ohio.
