Members of both the Lutheran and Catholic communities joined together in common prayer to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation on Oct. 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe on Tuesday evening. The “joint service of unity” presented by the Jim Thorpe Area Ministerium joined both church communities in common prayer to commemorate the landmark event in history.

The event program stated the spirit of the celebration, saying that “What unites us is far greater than what divides us. Catholics and Lutherans embrace each other as sisters and brothers in the Lord.”

Following the service the fellowship continued with refreshments in the St. Joseph Regional Academy cafeteria.
