Coaldale traffic stops lead to marijuana citations

Two separate traffic stops in Coaldale led to two individuals being charged with possession of marijuana.

Bryan Wilson Lyda, 39, of 313 W. Ridge St., Lansford, was driving a silver Hyundai west on Route 209 at 8:50 p.m. on Feb. 24 when police noticed the right headlamp wasn’t working. Officers conducted a traffic stop.

Bryan admitted having a “weed” in his right pocket. The marijuana was located inside a pill container within a metal container. He was cited for possession and the traffic violation.

Shalanda Smith, 25, of 173 W. Ridge St., Lansford, was driving a gray Chevrolet sedan west on Route 209 at 6:13 p.m. on Feb. 22 when an officer saw the taillights were not functioning properly. During the vehicle stop the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana and Smith admitted there was a bag of the weed under the front driver’s seat. The bag was recovered and weighed in at 3.9 grams.

She was cited for possession and the traffic violation.
