Carbon County Community Foundation awarded grants to several organizations Monday.

Shepherd House received a $3,000 grant for serving low-income individuals and families through nine food pantries countywide.

Blue Mountain Health System was awarded $1,000 for “Healthy Smiles/Happy Kids” dental van.

Palmerton Library received $3,000 for roof replacement.

The foundation also awarded $1,000 to the Lehighton Fire Department for an upgrade of firefighter protective equipment.

The Rotary Club of Jim Thorpe received $650 for Carbon Career & Technical Center graduate assistance program.

Lehigh River Stocking Association received $500 to expand its cooperative trout nursery.

The Carbon County Community Foundation was formed in 2015 with the mission to improve the quality of life in Carbon County through charitable giving.

The foundation exists to be simultaneously a philanthropic leader, a community resource and a financial steward. The goal is to support donors with their charitable giving, helping them invest strategically in causes they care about and in ways that make a difference in the community by keeping abreast of current community needs and taking action to meet them.

However, a community foundation is focused on developing funds that will live on in perpetuity, providing support to the community for generations to come.
