Council agrees to repairs at former school building
It will cost Lehighton nearly $14,000 to fix water issues at a former school building.
On a 6-0 vote, with Councilman Joe Flickinger absent, borough council last week approved the scupper and drainage repairs for the Pfc. Clyde R. Houser Jr. Building/Borough Annex in the amount of $13,979.
Annex building manager Tom Evans informed council of the situation concerning the building at 110 N. Third St.
“Right now when it rains, we’re getting a lot of water in the building,” Evans said. “We’ve been having water problems for a while.”
Currently, the former Lehighton Junior High School building houses offices for Pathstone Head Start, Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit and state Rep. Doyle Heffley.
The annex was converted by the borough into office space in the mid-1990s. The borough obtained grants and loans for the project.
