Crates of live chickens fall on Pennsylvania highway

Published June 11. 2019 08:58AM

LENHARTSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — More than 100 chickens survived after falling off a truck on a Pennsylvania highway.

State Police say more than a dozen crates holding the birds came off the truck on Interstate 78 in Berks County on Monday. Passing motorists managed to avoid hitting them.

Humane Pennsylvania chief operating officer Damon March tells WFMZ-TV its animal response team was able to bring 119 chickens to a shelter, but they were not able to save eight of them.

The rescued birds are being evaluated and receiving medical care.
