Culvert in Chestnuthill Township subject of inspection report
A culvert on Evergreen Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township will either see limited traffic or be closed pending a re-inspection by township engineers. A recent report recommended that the span just south of Camp Alice Road be limited to a 10-foot width and that a more detailed inspection be completed.
The supervisors Tuesday evening agreed that the culvert that crosses McMichael Creek may have to be closed until they are able to replace it for the safety of residents.
The supervisors also approved a memorandum of understanding with Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitters to create a change donation fund for the benefit of Chestnuthill Township’s natural areas properties.
The township has approximately 870 acres enrolled in the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s public access program. These lands are open to the public for hunting, hiking, biking and other activities such as bird watching.
Dunkelberger’s has stores in Brodheadsville and in Stroudsburg. The agreement allows Dunkelberger’s to collect change from the store’s customers during checkout. The funds will be remitted to the township quarterly and will be used for matching grants for the benefit of the township’s open spaces projects.
“Dunkelberger’s understands the importance of reinvesting in the community,” Supervisor Harry Miller said. “It’s a nice thing they are doing.”
The supervisors also approved a contract with Mr. Outdoor Tree Service for tree cutting and removal in the amount of $28,600. The tree service was the only vendor to respond to the request for quotation.
The township will also be advertising for road paving project for the year.
