April 24, 1999 — Tamaqua’s Noel Powell captures three individual events at the annual Mount Carmel Invitational. Powell sprints to victory in both the 100 and 200 and claims the long jump, tying an all-time school record with a distance of 22-2 1/2. Powell takes the 100 in a time of 11.23, after having run an 11.12 in the trials. His winning 200 time is 22.55. Marian’s Erin Brady runs a 12.56 to earn gold in the 100, and also takes second in the 200 and 400. Panther Valley’s Kristin Blazosky wins the long jump with a distance of 15-10, and finishes second in the triple jump.
