August 1, 1978 — Jim Thorpe belts four homers, one of them a grand slam by Butch Reabold, in cruising to a 17-2 Panther Valley Little League tournament victory over Summit Hill. The winners explode for nine runs in the fourth inning, with Dave Steidle, Scott Kmetz and Jimmy Miller all connecting for home runs in the frame. Reabold, who also doubles in the contest, hits his slam in the fifth. Kmetz gains the pitching win, striking out 10. Chris Brady adds two hits, one a two-run double, while Steidle and Kmetz each finish with two hits and two runs.
