August 27, 1959 — Howard “Buddy” Donald tosses a one-hitter to lead Tamaqua to a 7-2 victory over Jim Thorpe in the Panther Valley Little League tournament. Tommy Brockel and Bobby Fritzinger both slug home runs and finish the contest with a pair of hits. The winners, managed by Harry Fetterman and Angie Konstas, jump out to an early lead with a five-run first inning. Paul Collins adds a double and run scored, while Billy Wishousky and George Krell each chip in with a single and a run.
