February 29, 1992 — Brian “Pip” Rehrig hits a jumper as time expires to lift Jim Thorpe to a 54-52 victory over Panther Valley in the quarterfinal round of the District 11 Class 2A playoffs. The Olympians, coached by Randy Engle, inbound the ball with two seconds left to Rehrig on the wing, who puts up his winning 15-footer. The two points are his only ones of the game. Joe Rader paces Thorpe with 26 points, while Dave Figura contributes nine points and nine rebounds. For PV, Jimmer Kane finishes with a team-high 15 points.
