July 25, 1950 — Lamar Mertz excels on the mound and at the plate to help Lehighton claim a 6-5 victory over East Stroudsburg in the opening game of their best-of-three junior leagion playoff series. Mertz collects two hits, one a triple, and scores a run for the Tri-County League champs. He also tosses seven innings and strikes out seven to earn the win. Lee Kuntz fans two over the final two frames to preserve the victory. Charles “Mort” Straub contributes a hit and a run, as do Billy Kunkle and E. Knappenberger.
