July 9, 1989 — Robbie Hummel tosses a four-hitter and the Tamaqua offense explodes for eight runs in the fourth inning en route to a 15-2 victory over the Hazleton Americans in the opening round of the District 18 Little League tournament. Hummel, who adds a hit and two RBIs, finishes with nine strikeouts. Bob Ruggeri collects two hits, one a two-run single during the fourth frame. Mike Heintzelman contributes two doubles and knocks in two runs for the winners, while Jim Dirzulaitis adds a single and a double. Brian Boyer chips in with a double and two RBIs.
