The diet of Lent

Published March 13. 2019 01:31PM

March 6 marks the beginning of Lent, the period before Easter, when devout Christians abstain from animal foods in remembrance of Jesus’ 40 days of fasting in the wilderness. The call to abstain from eating animals is as traditional as Genesis 1:29, yet as current as the teaching of evangelical leader Franklin Graham.

Methodist founder John Wesley, Salvation Army pioneers William and Catherine Booth, and Seventh-day Adventist Church founder Ellen White all followed the divine call. Pope Francis has been offered a $1 million donation to a charity of his choice to go vegan for Lent.

A plant-based diet is not just about Christian devotion. Dozens of medical studies have linked consumption of animal products with elevated risk of heart failure, stroke, cancer and other killer diseases.

A United Nations report named meat production as the largest source of greenhouse gases and water pollution. Undercover investigations have documented routine mutilation, deprivation and beating of animals on factory farms.

Today’s supermarkets offer a rich array of plant-based meats, milks, cheeses and ice creams, as well as traditional vegetables, fruits and grains. Entering “vegan” in our favorite search engine provides lots of suitable products, recipes and transition tips.

Dear Evan,
This is a well written letter, however, there are those who love God and there are those who fancy God: the first represent religion, the latter use religion to manipulate. Your letter puts you with the latter.
Genesis 1:29 ESV "And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food."

Genesis 9:3 ESV "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything."
It's crucial to remember that discussions of this kind are secondary to the central issue of saving faith in Jesus Christ. In the words of the apostle Paul, "Everyone should be fully convinced in his own mind" (Romans 14:5). Eat what you feel lead to eat Evan, but don't cut and paste God's Word to meet an Agenda (Look Up Agenda 21).
As for the way man obtains the meat he eats? Since you started your letter in scripture, let's use the Bible as the Authority through out... OK?
God Said... "let them have dominion over the fish... fowl... cattle... and over every creeping thing..."
Wow!
That's making me like the ruler over these creatures, but, first and foremost, I learn to have dominion over self. We are all God's creatures. He created the "food chain" - down to plants, microbes, and bacteria. God created everything and gave everything its place and order. We eat animals, they eat other animals, those eat plants, plants eat from the soil, bacteria eat yeast, etc. God created balance and order in the entire earth and heavens.

Now about the United Nations...
I live in America, the greatest formed government in all the world, as proven by all those willing to break laws to get in here.
The U.N. Remember, they declared Islam as the most peaceful religion in the world. Enough Said. America will remain a sovereign nation, or the UN takes Global Sovereignty. Be very wary of the Globalists who cling to the U.N. as the global governor.
Back to FOOD...
Eat what you wish, but be very careful why you eat what you wish, and, be careful not to fall into traps, which will ultimately divide us all.
"A house divided can not stand"
You can have meatless Monday's, but, if your reason is to eliminate flatulence, or force better humane treatment of animals, please keep in mind, the animals aren't human, and preventing cattle slaughter, Meatless Monday, will only increase fart gasses. Ha Ha Ha
Now let's talk humanity and humans... Abortion ... Shall we?
Good Day
