District to offer more personalized learning

Published April 13. 2018 11:22PM

Tamaqua Area School District plans to offer a more personalized method to instruction.

Superintendent Ray Kinder said at Tuesday’s school board committee meeting that starting next year, there will be a shift toward personalized/customized learning.

Kinder said it would be geared to the abilities and pace of the individual student, and that the district anticipates having a few small steps next year at all levels.

“An infusion of technology is going to be an important part of it,” Kinder said.

Kinder said it’s about “moving toward this more personalized type of learning.”

“We don’t know how it’s going to play out,” he said.

Kinder said that more efficiently using resources, while providing students and teachers with flexibility, are components that will hopefully support the educational experience.

“We want it to work,” he said. “Technology will be a part of it, but not the only part of it.”
