Domestic assault lands Carbon man in state prison
A domestic assault case landed a Carbon County man in a state prison on Thursday.
Erick S. Mack, 39, of Lansford, pleaded guilty before Carbon President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to simple assault for an incident on Nov. 27 at his residence along West Patterson Street. In exchange for the plea, a charge of terroristic threats was dropped by the district attorney’s office.
Borough police responded to the home for a domestic assault incident. On scene, the victim, Mack’s wife, told officers he had threatened to kill her and choke her death.
Attorney Paul J. Levy, of the public defender’s office, said Mack was “drinking heavily” the day of the incident and has an alcohol problem.
Mack told Nanovic, “There is no excuse for what I did. No excuse for my actions.”
Mack was on state parole at the time of the incident and is facing revocation of his parole.
Nanovic noted that Mack’s 8-year-old son was present when he assaulted his wife.
Nanovic sentenced him to serve six to 24 months in a state correctional institution with credit for 58 days already served. Mack was also ordered to supply a DNA sample, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, do not possess any firearms and pay court costs of about $1,000.
Mack has been an inmate in the county prison since the incident and now will be transferred to a state facility.
