Driver falls asleep, car crashes in Polk
Two people escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash that happened at 5:16 p.m. Aug. 8 on Dorshimer Road in Polk Township.
State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred when Jan P. Racavich, 63, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius westbound when he felt fatigued and fell asleep at the wheel. Police said the car crossed over the opposing lane, continued onto a rocky plateau and hit a tree.
Neither Racavich nor his passenger, Christine E. Havel, 69, also of Kunkletown, were injured.
Police said the car sustained heavy front end and undercarriage damages and was towed from the scene.
