Driver falls asleep, crashes

A Schuylkill County driver fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle and crashed into a parked vehicle. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday along West Bacon Street in Palo Alto.

Troopers said David A. Andrews, 31, of Pottsville, was driving a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage eastbound when he fell asleep. His vehicle struck a parked 2016 Nissan Frontier on the left side with the right front. After impact the Mirage continued another 200 feet east before coming to rest. The roadway was closed for a period of time until the wreckage was clear, troopers said.

Andrews was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Medical Center East, in Pottsville. The Mirage was towed.
