Driver, passenger facing drug charges in Monroe

State police at the Lehighton barracks said two people are facing drug-related charges after a motor vehicle stop at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at 1268 Route 209, Chestnuthill Township.

They are a 29-year-old woman from Danielsville and a 22-year-old man from Lehighton.

Police said the front-seat passenger in the vehicle that was stopped was found to be wanted out of Carbon County for drug-related offenses. During the traffic stop, police said there were indicators of criminal activity observed and consent to search the vehicle was granted by the operator.

As a result of the search, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.

Police said the operator displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody for driving under the influence and for driving with a suspended license because of a DUI-related charge. The operator was transported to the Monroe County DUI Center for processing and was later released.

Police did not release the names of anyone involved.
