Driver sentenced for fiery crash that killed Schuylkill woman

(AP) Rather than be thankful on Thursday, Amanda Martin’s sons were reminded of what they lost.

It was the second Thanksgiving for the 9- and 10-year-old boys without their mother.

Martin was one of three people killed due to the recklessness of Terrell Barclay, 29, who was high on bath salts and marijuana and drank over the legal limit of alcohol when he crashed into three parked cars in Bethlehem Township.

The Orange, New Jersey, man was the only person to survive the fiery crash on May 6, 2016. He’s permanently disfigured due to burns and injuries he suffered.

Barclay took a plea deal Wednesday and will serve 12 to 30 years in state prison after pleading guilty to three counts of homicide by vehicle while under the influence.

He turned down a similar deal earlier this year which would have forced him to serve 15 to 30 years.

In a letter to Northampton County Judge Michael Koury, Martin’s mother said no punishment will ever bring back her daughter. Assistant District Attorney Joseph Lupackino read the letter into the record.

Barclay was speeding at 1:22 a.m. when he crashed in the 1800 block of Willow Park Road in Bethlehem Township. The car burst into flames and Barclay emerged from the crash screaming with his clothes on fire.

Martin, 26, of New Ringgold; Ashlee Mosher, 29, of Easton; and Joshua Edwards, 28, of Easton; all died from the blunt force of the crash, Lupackino said.
