Drizzle doesn’t stop NL parade
Despite a constant cover of clouds and a light drizzle, Northern Lehigh’s 111th Halloween parade kicked off Sunday night.
The parade, originally supposed to take place on Saturday night, was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
Sponsored by the Northern Lehigh Events Committee, this year’s parade theme was Witches and Wizards.
Each float presented a different interpretation of this year’s theme.
Kory Rabenold Productions made its way down the street in a float decorated like a haunted circus, playing and acting out to the song “Friends on the Other Side,” from Disney’s film “The Princess and the Frog.”
Others also took inspiration from popular movies.
The Northern Lehigh Theatre Troupe presented a group of young actors and actresses dressed as a slew of famous characters, like Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty” or Jafar from “Aladdin.”
A school bus from the Northern Lehigh School District flashed the pseudonym “Northern Lehigh School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.”
An hour before the parade started, people started populating the sidewalk, umbrellas and raincoats in hand.
Alyssa and Adam Getz, and their 7-year-old daughter Braylynn, were ready for the parade.
Alyssa said the parade is a tradition. A Northampton High School graduate, Alyssa would walk with her brother’s Cub Scout float in the parade.
“I’ve been walking in (the parade) since I was 10, and then after I graduated high school I’ve been coming ever since.”
For Braylynn, who participated in a procession in Northampton County last week, being a part of a parade is more fun than watching one. But there was one thing special about Northern Lehigh’s parade that might have made being a viewer worth it: the candy.
But for her mother, Alyssa, the parade was exciting for a different reason.
“I really like how the whole community comes out, I really do,” Alyssa said. “I mean, it’s raining and there’s still people here, like weathering the storm to see what the school did, and what the sports did.”
“I don’t know, I really enjoy it. I like the environment of it,” she added.
